Brigitte Bardot, 88, is recovering after first responders rushed to her house last month when she suffered from breathing problems.
Her husband, Bernard d’Ormale, called the ambulance while the couple was in their home in Saint-Tropez. He shared the incident with the public explaining that the heat wave in France caused the incident. He characterized it as “a moment of respiratory distraction,” to the local news outlet Var-matin.
He additionally stated that the “ambulances got the wrong address,” causing a delay in her care.
First responders gave Bardot oxygen to help normalize her breathing and watched her before they left.
Bardot is well-known for acting in the films The Bear and the Doll, Plucking the Daisy, The Night Heaven Fell, The Truth and Contempt. She acted until her 40th birthday in 1973, when she announced her retirement.
Since then, Bardot has become an animal activist, although some of her actions have been deemed controversial.
In 2019 she wrote a letter criticizing the Native Reunion Islanders’ treatment of animals and characterized them as “aboriginals who have kept the genes of savages.” After this statement was released, she was fined under French law for encouraging racial hatred.
This was the actress’s sixth conviction after she criticized the Hindu Tamil population and made Islamophobic comments toward other groups.

Additionally, in 2006, she attacked Aid el-Kebir, the Muslim festival, in a letter written to the then-Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy.
She is currently still working with her foundation, Fondation Brigitte Bardot, in France to protect animals.
