Brie Larson at the 2016 Oscars
Brie Larson is reportedly in talks to play Captain Marvel, one of Marvel’s most popular female superheroes.
Larson, 26, is on the short list to take on the titular role in the planned Captain Marvel standalone picture, according to Variety. Apparently, Larson, who took home an Oscar for her starring turn in Room, is Marvel’s first choice to play the superhero. As of yet, it’s unknown how far along the studio and Larson are in negotiations.
Neither Marvel nor Larson have commented on the rumor.
Meg LeFauve (Inside Out) and Nicole Perlman are working on the script for Captain Marvel, as the studio looks to tap a worthy star and director. Kevin Feige is producing.
The Captain Marvel movie will tell the story of air force pilot Carol Danvers, whose DNA – according to the canon origin story – ends up fusing with an alien’s as the result of an accident. Captain Marvel’s superpowers include flight, super strength and energy project.
