Brie Larson Confirms Reason For Not Clapping For Casey Affleck At Oscars

Brie Larson has confirmed that she refused to clap for Casey Affleck when he won the Oscar for Best Actor because of his past sexual assault charges.

BRIE LARSON CONFIRMS NOT CLAPPING FOR CASEY AFFLECK

In 2010, Affleck was sued by two women for sexual harassment, and in both cases the actor settled out of court. The issue came back into prevalence was Affleck got the nod for his performance in Manchester by the Sea, and many were unhappy that he would be applauded for his work after being charged with assault.

Larson, an activist for sexual assault survivors, was for some reason made to hand Affleck his acting awards at two separate award shows. She refused to clap for him at either one. Speculation went around that it was due to the sexual assaults, and Larson has finally confirmed the thought.

“I think that whatever it was that I did on stage kind of spoke for itself,” Larson told Vanity Fair. “I’ve said all that I need to say about that topic.”

Affleck was accused of multiple counts of harassment. In once case, it was reported that he forced another male crew member to take off his pants and show his penis to plaintiff Amanda White. He also referred to women as “cows” and asked, “Isn’t it about time you get pregnant?” She also alleged he threatened her when she refused to share a hotel room with him.

The other woman bringing charges, Magdalena Gorka, described an incident in which she awoke in the middle of the night to find Affleck had snuck into her bed. She described that he “curled up next to her in the bed wearing only his underwear and a T-shirt. He had his arm around her, was caressing her back, his face was within inches of hers and his breath reeked of alcohol.” When she told him to leave, he got angry and slammed the door.

Affleck has denied all allegations against him. Manchester by the Sea director Kenneth Lonergan has also spoken out on behalf of the actor. “Casey denounced the allegations as being totally fabricated,” he wrote. “Like most civil suits, this one was settled out of court by mutual consent on undisclosed terms. In other words nothing was proved or disproved.”
