Bret Michaels’ childhood home in Mechanicsburg, Penn., has gone up in flames and is considered a total loss.
Janna Elias, vice president of operations for Bret Michaels Entertainment, told The Sentinel about the home: “I can confirm that this was indeed one of Bret’s former childhood homes.”
Michaels lived at the home between the ages of six and 17, according to Elias.
“Lots of memories in that house for him and his family,” she said.
The occupants of the house, two adults and five children, are now without a home. The house on Hemlock Drive in Upper Allen Township went up in flames around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
“It was coming out of the front and out of the back,” said Chief Jim Salter, Upper Allen Township Fire Department. “It started in the kitchen area. We’re still investigating exactly what the main cause was. We think it was cooking.”
All seven people escaped, but a man was taken to the hospital, as a precaution.
“When we were inside looking there was pretty much nothing left. All their valuables are all gone,” said Salter.
Valuable time was lost when the firefighters tried to get to a hidden fire hydrant due to the snow.
“We need that three foot by three foot space around those hydrants. We received numerous calls from our fire station saying that they see people dumping more snow on top of the hydrants,” said Salter. “It should be a wake-up call that this is a very serious situation and you don’t want this to happen.”
Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $250,000.
