BREAKING: Herman Cain 'Reassessing' Candidacy

Amid an onslaught of bad press, including interview blunders and sexual harassment accusations, Herman Cain told staff members that he is reassessing the future of his presidential campaign.

On Monday an Atlanta woman, Ginger White, went public saying that she and the former Godfather Pizza CEO had engaged in a 13-year affair. "It was pretty simple," she said in an interview with Fox 5 Atlanta. "It wasn't complicated. I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship," she said.

Though Cain denied White's claims, he acknowledged that the fresh accusations could create an obstacle too difficult to overcome in his ongoing presidential campaign, considering that the first caucus will take place in a mere five weeks in Iowa.

"This is cause for reassessment," Cain said on Tuesday morning on a five-minute conference call with his advisers, reports the National Review, which was on the call. "As you know, during the summer we had to make some reassessments based upon our financial situation. We were able to hang in there; we reassessed the situation and kept on going," Cain said.

"Now, with this latest one, we have to do an assessment as to whether or not this is going to create too much of a cloud, in some people's minds, as to whether or not they would be able to support us going forth," he continued. Though Cain said he would wait to analyze the effect of the news on his backers, he seemed "aware of the gravity of the challenges facing his candidacy," according to the New York Times. "It's also taken a toll on my wife and family, as you would imagine," Cain continued. "For some people, you're guilty until proven innocent. And so, the public will have to decide whether they believe [White] or whether they believe me. That's why we're going to give it time, to see what type of response we get from our supporters."

Cain will appear to make a scheduled speech tonight at Hillsdale College in Michigan, and then he will make his final decisions about how to proceed with his candidacy "over the next several days."
