Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are expected to battle it out in court next year after a longtime feud over their winery.
The exes are now anticipating a face-off after a judge recently dismissed the actress’s motion to throw out Pitt’s lawsuit made against her concerning a verbal agreement over their split ownership of their French vineyard.
The $500 million estate, which produces an award-winning rosé, has been the center of a long term court battle between the two ever since Jolie filed for divorce in 2016.
Jolie, 49, argues that the agreement had been nullified after Pitt, 60, asked her to sign an NDA in relation to their marriage.
The case is set to become more costly too, as the former couple have already spent millions.
The most recent turn in the lawsuit has been L.A. Superior Court Judge Lia Martin throwing out Jolie’s motions.
Court filings turned in last week suggest that the judge has come across a basis in Pitt’s claims that their original agreement was conclusive, and that Jolie may have violated the original terms when she sold shares to Russian businessman Yuri Shefler in 2021.
According to Pitt’s lawyers, Jolie wasn’t supposed to sell shares without permission from both parties, thus breaking the couple’s original deal.
The dismissal of the three filings has now led to the exes battling it out in court at the trial next year.
The Stoli Group, which purchased Jolie’s shares, is also looking to have the case dismissed.
Pitt filed the $67 million lawsuit against Jolie in 2022, less than a year after she sold the shares, creating a prolonged court battle between the once-happy pair.
Legal experts have noted that the trial could be pushed into 2026 based on the legal arguments and personal history between the two.
Jolie has pleaded with Pitt to drop the case to no avail. Pitt has felt personally offended after several of the kids with Jolie dropped his last name.
