Brad Pitt is suing his ex-wife Angelina Jolie for secretly selling her share of their family wine business to a spirits manufacturer controlled by Russian oligarch Yuri Shefler. The actor said that, due to the war in Ukraine, the sale is an “existential threat to the business” because of the new owner’s connection with Russia.
The lawsuit states that Shefler’s spirits business, Stoli Group, has been the target of several boycotts in association with Vladimir Putin‘s invasion of Ukraine and a “homophobic legislative agenda.” It claims that Shefler is attempting to “launder his reputation” with a partnership with the actors and in turn “jeopardizes the reputation” of the business and Pitt himself.

The suit also says that Jolie’s sale was “unlawful” due to a contract between the two actors that prevents them from selling their shares without the “other’s consent.” In 2021, during the couple’s child custody dispute, Jolie sold a 50% stake in the family home and business.
This led to Pitt’s initial suit in February 2022. Jolie filed a countersuit against Pitt for $250 million in damages. She claimed Pitt was “waging a vindictive war” on her ever since their divorce in 2016. Pitt purportedly spent millions of dollars on “vanity projects,” including a swimming pool and a recording studio.
In 2008, Pitt and Jolie bought a controlling share in Château Miraval S.A., a French vineyard and winery where the couple had married in 2014. Miraval Wines instantly became successful, selling out its first 6,000 bottles of rosé in five hours.
