Brad Pitt, following wife Angelina Jolie‘s divorce filing, could face an investigation on allegations of child abuse.
After news broke that Jolie was seeking to divorce Pitt after just two years of marriage, it was reported that the reason for divorce had to do with how Pitt was parenting their six children. It was later alleged that Jolie was motivated to file for divorce after a specific incident that took place last week.
The alleged incident occurred on a private plane on Sept. 14, a day before Jolie filed for separation. Last Wednesday, an anonymous person reported that Pitt had become “verbally abusive” and “physical” with one of their children while the other kids were present.
It has since come to light that the anonymous person claimed that Pitt had directed his anger at Maddox, 15. Pitt “put his hands on” on Maddox, but “did not hit his child” and “no one was physically harmed,” a source told People magazine.
Amid the conflicting reports of exactly what happened, the FBI is looking into the claims.
“In response to your inquiry regarding allegations within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States; specifically, an aircraft carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI is continuing to gather facts and will evaluate whether an investigation at the federal level will be pursued,” the FBI said in a statement to news outlets Thursday.
The LAPD initially claimed that they were not investigating the reports about Pitt’s alleged interaction with his children, but later clarified that they are not permitted to confirm or deny such matters.
“LAPD is not handling any report or allegations into child abuse for Mr. Brad Pitt,” the LAPD said in a statement on Thursday. Spokesman for the L.A. County Children and Family Services, Armand Montiel, explained. “DCFS is not allowed to confirm or deny any subject of allegations.”
Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on Monday, Sept. 19 after two years of marriage and more than 10 years as a couple. The A-list pair are parents to six children – Maddox, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10 and 8-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. Jolie is seeking sole physical custody of the kids.
