Brad Halsey, who formerly pitched for the Oakland Athletics, reportedly fell 100 feet to his death last week. He was 33.
When Halsey’s death was initially reported, the circumstances surrounding his passing were unknown. Following an autopsy ordered by Comal County Judge Jennifer Saunders, it’s being reported that Halsey died from a fall that caused multiple blunt force injuries. However, it’s still unknown whether it had been accidental or intentional.
"It appeared that he had climbed up about a 100-foot cliff on a private property and was discovered in a little road going up into that property,'' Saunders told USA Today Sports. "He had either jumped or fallen.''
Halsey’s body was discovered on Friday afternoon at 1p.m. on a road below the cliff he’s thought to have fallen from in New Braunfels, Texas. His death is currently under investigation.
When asked about her son’s death, Loretta Halsey said, "I really would like to keep this private right now." Another person purported to be close to Halsey said that he had died in a recreational climbing accident.
Halsey made his MLB debut with the New York Yankees in 2004. In 2004 he was traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks and played his last MLB game for the Oakland Athletics in 2006. Since then, Halsey played in independent leagues and last played in 2011 playing for a Yankees farm team.
