Brad Culpepper, Former NFL Lineman, Sued For Fraud After Appearing On ‘Survivor’

Brad Culpepper, who was a star lineman in the NFL, faces a lawsuit from an insurance company after his appearance on Survivor.

Brad Culpepper Sued

Four years ago, Culpepper received a $175,000 settlement from the Fairmont Premier insurance company, reported the Tampa Bay Times.  At the time, he claimed that his years in the NFL had left him 89% disabled. However, the insurance company learned that not only had the former pro athlete taken up kickboxing, he had also joined the cast of Survivor: Blood vs. Water with his wife Monica.

“He said he can’t do recreational activities,” attorney Christopher Fusco told KMGH-TV. “He’s limited in what he can do, he has pains every day of the year, and now he’s living on a desert island and he’s swimming and killing fish with his hands and eating bamboo, so that’s going to upset the insurer.”

“The NFL players association put out word to NFL players to file claims and thousands upon thousands did exactly that,” added Fusco.

In the face of the lawsuit, Culpepper’s lawyer, Scott Schutzman has stated that Culpepper never misrepresented his injuries in his disability claim. When he made the claim, Culpepper had provided ample evidence to show that he’d suffered numerous injuries during his 10-year NFL career that left him disabled.

“This man played in the NFL for 10 years,” Schutzman said. “He has multiple doctors and medical records, including 14 or 15 MRIs, which show injuries to his knees, to his shoulders, to his head. He’s had injury after injury after injury.”

Culpepper has also spoken out on his own behalf, defending himself against the allegations fraud. “I was on pain medication, and I had a back procedure right before that,” Culpepper told ABC News. “Just because I chose to do things that are contra [sic] to my body, doesn’t mean I’m not in pain, and doesn’t mean I’m not impaired.”
