The bracket for the 2013 NCAA men’s basketball tournament has been revealed, proving “bracketology” might have something behind it with three practitioners scoring a 68/68.
Joe Lunardi, Patrick Stevens and Will Leitch all scored perfectly, predicting each of the 68 teams picked for this year’s tournament in their pre-announcement brackets. Lunardi even accurately picked the four 1-seeds, the four 2-seeds and the last four teams to squeeze into the tournament.
The four 1-seeds are Louisville, Kansas, Gonzaga and Indiana. Despite winning their conference tournament with the ACC, the Miami Hurricanes are a two seed. Joining the Hurricanes as a 2-seed are fellow ACC school Duke, Ohio State and Georgetown. The last four in, as predicted by Lunardi, were Boise State, Middle Tennessee, St. Mary’s and La Salle.
The conference breakdown for the tournament sees the Big East leading with eight teams earning bids. Right behind them is the Big Ten with seven. The Mountain West, Pac-12, Big 12 and Atlantic 12 all received five bids. The ACC and SEC earned four and three bids, respectively.
Round one of the NCAA tournament will kick off March 19-20. Middle Tennessee will battle for the 11-seed to play Memphis, while Liberty and North Carolina A&T will fight for the 16-seed spot opposite Louisville in the Midwest quadrant of the bracket. Long Island University and James Madison will face off for the last 16-seed spot in the East to play Louisville, and Boise State and LaSalle will try to oust each other to play as a 13-seed against Kansas State in the West.
