Undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney was arrested in Los Angeles and faces a felony charge for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle.

Haney, 24, was arrested around midnight after his security team left a restaurant. He was traveling in the back seat when police pulled the car over for a traffic stop. Officers said the driver did not use a turn signal and made a dangerous lane change. The driver told police that there was a weapon in the car, leading to a search and eventual discovery of a semi-automatic handgun under the driver’s seat.

None of the passengers claimed ownership of the gun, so Haney was arrested since the car was registered under his name.

He was later released on $35,000 bail. The boxer is set to make an appearance in court on August 3.

Haney’s father and manager, Bill Haney, said in a statement, “It’s a misunderstanding that will be solved when Devin goes to court. It’s unfortunate that he was arrested with his armed licensed security, and I’m confident things are going to be worked out.”
