Boston Marathon Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev received a relief payment of $1,400 in June of 2021 but was recently ordered by a court to return it, along with the rest of the money in his inmate trust account.
Tsarnaev was convicted in 2015 for his role in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing that killed three and injured hundreds more.
Tsarnaev received a death sentence, but it was overturned in 2020 by a federal appeals court. The Biden administration has requested that the Supreme Cort reverse the decision.
In addition to his death sentence, Tsarnaev has been ordered to pay a total of $101,126,627, and prosecutors said he has paid $2,202.03 of it so far.
Prosecutors filed a complaint on Wednesday requesting that Tsarnaev return his $1,400 relief payment, along with other funds accumulated in his inmate trust account, as further restitution payment.
They also claimed that Tsarnaev has been “prioritizing payments to his siblings over the victims of his crimes,” in their complaint.
The court responded the same day the complaint was filed, issuing the official order to the Tsarnaev camp that they must return all the funds to the Clerk of the Court on Wednesday as payment to the victims of the bombing.
