Eighteen-year-old Naomi Irion disappeared weeks ago after last being seen in a Walmart parking lot early in the morning on March 12. A suspect who may have abducted Irion has been arrested. On Wednesday, Irion’s body was found in the Nevada desert.
“Their investigative actions led them to a possible gravesite, Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Investigative Services team was contacted and responded to assist in processing the scene,” the county sheriff’s office said in a release.
The FBI had just offered a $10,000 reward for any information that could lead to locating her.
Irion was seen shopping at a Wal-Mart around 5 a.m. in the city of Fernley in Nevada. Surveillance video showed an unidentified man approaching Irion’s vehicle, who was later seen in the driver’s seat driving the car out of the lot. The car was recovered near the store days later.
The suspect who was arrested, 41-year-old Troy Driver, is still being held in custody on a kidnapping charge after he was arrested on Friday.
The FBI included a visual description of what Irion was last seen wearing, which included “a blue Panasonic company shirt, a gray cardigan sweater, gray pants, and brown boots. She was carrying a black purse. Naomi’s iPhone (10 or 11) has yet to be found.”
Irion’s brother, Casey Valley, was still holding out hope and told reporters this week. “We feel Naomi is alive, and she’s still out there somewhere. And she wants to come home, and we want her to come home. There’s a lot of people making a lot of speculative comments.”
