Influential singer-songwriter Bob Dylan recently won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, but has yet to comment on the historic win.
The 75-year-old is the first American to win the award since 1993, but more impressively, he is the first person ever to receive the award for songwriting. Dylan’s incredible career has spanned five decades and numerous awards, including eleven Grammys, an Oscar and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Despite the Novel Prize being perhaps the most coveted, Dylan has yet to respond to the honor. Shortly after the win was announced, Dylan did a show in Las Vegas, and did not mention the award.
“Right now we are doing nothing,” said Sara Danius, of the Swedish Academy. “I have called and sent emails to his closest collaborator and received very friendly replies. For now, that is certainly enough.”
The award will be given in Stockholm, Sweden, on Dec. 10 this year. “If he doesn’t want to come, he won’t come,” Danius said. “It will be a big party in any case and the honor belongs to him.”
