The Philadelphia Museum of Art has joined Blue Beetle’s marketing team.
It wasn’t just any promotional marketing though, as a mural of the comic book character was painted onto the stairs, often called the “Rocky Steps,” of the art museum, known for the iconic scene in the first Rocky movie.
Although it was made to hype potential viewers of the film, many Philadelphia residents seemed to be unhappy as one social media user on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote, “The thing that bugs me the most about this is that has nothing to do with Philly.”
“Why did they ruin the Rocky steps like that?!” asked another. “Imagine going to visit that and having your photo forever tainted as Blue Beetle product placement — [what] landmarks are next?!”
“Decorating the Rocky steps for Blue Beetle has gotta be one of the most embarrassing marketing decisions I’ve ever seen,” a third expressed.
Blue Beetle is the 14th installment in the DC Extended Universe and is out in theaters on August 18.
