A lunar phenomenon known as a “blood moon” will appear in the night sky on the evening of September 27-28.
During an eclipse, the moon takes on a deep copper color, which has given it the moniker of “blood moon,” a biblical term. According to biblical prophecy, the fourth and final eclipse in a lunar eclipse tetrad could indicate an apocalypse. The blood moon coming at the end of this month will be the fourth, reports CNN.
The previous lunar eclipses in the tetrad – separated by six months – occurred April 15, 2014; October 8, 2014; and April 4, 2015.
In the Book of Acts 2:20, it reads, “The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.”
Christian minister Mark Blitz is among the believers in the tetrad’s significance.
“The last time there was a tetrad was back in the 1900s, and to my amazement, they also fell on the feasts of Passover and Tabernacles,” Blitz explained. “When I noticed the years these phenomena occurred, my mind began reeling. The last two times there were four blood moons in a row, they happened, first, right after Israel became a nation in 1948, and then again when Israel retook Jerusalem in 1967.”
Efrain Rodriguez, another Christian fundamentalist, sparked fear in his followers when he suggested that an asteroid was going to hit Puerto Rico and cause an Earthquake during a blood moon. NASA, which received a letter from Rodriguez, has since shut down his claims.
“There is no existing evidence that an asteroid or any other celestial object is on a trajectory that will impact Earth,” said Paul Chodas from NASA’s Near-Earth Object Office. “In fact, not a single one of the known objects has any credible chance of hitting our planet over the next century. There is no scientific basis, not one shred of evidence, that an asteroid or any other celestial object will impact Earth on those dates.”
After the Sept. 27 blood moon, the next tetrad is not expected to occur until 2032.
