Blake Shelton is suing In Touch Weekly‘s parent company, Bauer Publishing Co., for $1 million for publishing a false cover story of him which claimed he was headed to rehab due to heavy drinking following his breakup with Miranda Lambert.
Shelton, who has had problems with In Touch in the past, has decided to sue them for $1 million for defamation. He filed the lawsuit on Monday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
This is not the first false story to be written about Shelton. Last month, the magazine published a story about the end of his marriage to Lambert being due to cheating, which he denied. The story about his alcohol abuse and trip to rehab was linked by the tabloid to his split with Lambert. The lawsuit Shelton filed states that none of these stories are true.Although Shelton first merely mocked the tabloid’s story, he later decided that the rehab story was the last straw.
“Blake Shelton has had enough,” the lawsuit states. “Mr. Shelton is not in rehab and has no plans to go to rehab.”
The lawsuit claims that In Touch never reached out to Shelton for confirmation on any of these subjects. It also states that Shelton has asked for a retraction of the story, but he has not yet received a response.
