Blake Lively To Close Lifestyle Website ‘Preserve’

Blake Lively will be closing her lifestyle website Preserve on Oct. 9, but until then there will be a huge sale.

Although this is not the end of Lively’s mission to change people’s lives, it is the end of the website Preserve, which features all sorts of cooking recipes, stories, and an online store where shoppers can buy clothing, jewelry, accessories and other things for the home.

The website was launched before it was ready, which inevitably led to its downfall. “We have an incredible team of people who do beautiful work, but we launched the site before it was ready, and it never caught up to its original mission: It’s not making a difference in people’s lives, whether superficially or in a meaningful way,” Lively told Vogue. “And that’s the whole reason I started this company, not just to fluff myself, like, ‘I’m a celebrity! People will care what I have to say!’”

Lively expects that people will be hard on her for closing the website, but she’s confident that her new project will redeem her. Plus, she has more important things to worry about than bad reviews, such as her one-year-old daughter, James Lively.

“I’ve finally summoned the strength to take on whatever anybody says because I know I’m going to come back with something stronger,” she told Vogue. “I’m proud of it and I can take it, because I am a much harder critic on me than any nasty gossip rag… I just want to make myself and my family proud.”

After Preserve closes, Lively plans to open a new website that fulfills the original goals of the former, although it will most likely be called something else.

“I’m a lot better at this than I am at acting,” she said. “I feel confident when I’m cooking or decorating. It’s something I control beginning, middle and end. That ownership feels good.”
