Bindi Irwin, the daughter of late "crocodile hunter" Steve Irwin, is facing the ire of PETA for announcing a partnership with PETA.
Irwin, now 15, appeared on Good Morning America Thursday with her mother Terri Irwin, 49, and younger brother Robert Irwin, 10, where she revealed the new business venture.
"We are so thrilled to finally be joining SeaWorld on a brand new initiative called Generation Nature,” Bindi Irwin told co-anchor Robin Roberts. “Which is all about encouraging kids to get involved and become game changers for wildlife and wild places.”
"I’m so excited to be carrying on in Dad’s footsteps,” the budding actress and TV host added. “And making sure that everything he worked so hard for continues for the generations to come.”
By aligning herself and her family with SeaWorld, Bindi Irwin has given cause to animal rights activists – both the organized and the casual – to speak out.
SeaWorld was recently highlighted in the award-winning documentary Blackfish, which shows the aquatic amusement park’s poor treatment of killer whales. With SeaWorld’s continued bad press, it appears as though they’re making a play to revise their image with the charismatic daughter of Steve Irwin.
"The Irwin family has been exploiting animals for years, so it comes as no surprise that Bindi has agreed to become SeaWorld's latest shill," PETA said in a statement. "But plastering her face on SeaWorld's website won't cover up the fact that orcas, dolphins, and other animals are suffering in SeaWorld's tiny tanks after being ripped from their families.”

"What millions have realized—through PETA's massive campaign and the hit documentary Blackfish—is that SeaWorld is no place for anyone who truly cares about animals," the statement added. "Bindi's talk-show appearances are just a flimsy last-ditch effort by an abusement park hoping to make a buck."
Steve Irwin, best known for his TV series The Crocodile Hunter, died at age 44 in 2006 when a stingray pierced him in the chest. Since his death the Irwin’s have continued his legacy in wildlife education.
