Bindi Irwin Tries Acting, Keeps Father Steve Irwin’s Legacy Alive

Bindi Irvin, best known for joining her late father Steve Irwin on Animal Planet's The Crocodile Hunter, is pursuing an acting career while staying involved in the wildlife her father taught her to love.

Irwin, 14, who lost her father at 8, recently took on her first acting role since 2010’s Free Willy: Escape from Pirate’s Cove, in Hallmark’s Return to Nim’s Island. "I loved working on the film with such a brilliant cast and crew who were just as passionate about creating a beautiful movie for people of all ages to enjoy," Irwin recently told People. "When you work on a movie, the cast and crew become like family, which is really special.

"I would love to expand my acting career and take on more roles, even if they do not directly have to do with wildlife," she added.

While Irwin might be a budding actress, she’s been staying true to her roots in the Australian wildlife. “Every morning we’re awoken by the sounds of the tigers, and every evening I’m put to sleep by a chorus of birds,” she gushed about her home, located smack in the middle of Queeensland’s Australia Zoo.

Irwin hopes that her role in Nim’s Island, and future roles to come, will grow people’s awareness of the wildlife she says is in her blood. “I want to carry on my dad’s legacy,” she told People, “and make sure that his message never dies.”

Bindi, her mother Terri and brother Robert host Australian TV series Steve Irwin’s Wildlife Warriors. Check out a promo for the show below:
