Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus‘ father, opened up about his daughter’s sexuality at the MTV Video Music Awards this past weekend.
“We’ve always been very open-minded,” Billy Ray told E! News. “Listen, it’s all about love and light. Forget the negativity and the haters. She’s rocking and rolling and having a good time. What the world needs is love. There’s too much hate… The world needs positive influences.”
Billy Ray went on to say that even as a child they always supported her in everything she did. “Even when she was a little girl, we told her, ‘Hey, baby, do what you do and have fun doing it. Do it because you love it, not because you have to’,” he said. “Seeing her happy is the greatest thing ever.”
In Elle U.K.‘s October issue Miley came out. “I’m very open about it. I’m pansexual,” she stated. “I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”
Miley’s family was in the audience at the VMAs over the weekend while Miley hosted on stage.
