Billy Porter & Husband Adam Smith Announce Divorce
Billy Porter and his husband of six years, Adam Smith, have decided to end their marriage.
Porter’s representative confirmed their divorce and said that the men have asked for “privacy” while dealing with the logistics.
Their split was “amicable” and there is no bad blood between the two. He additionally added that neither will comment on the divorce publicly.
The couple first met back in 2009 while at a dinner party and dated for a year before breaking up. Five years later, they decided to get back together and tied the knot on January 14, 2017, just 16 days after Porter proposed in London.
The couple said at the time that they chose to get married so quickly because they wanted to get married while Barack Obama was still president. They had a small and intimate wedding in Manhattan with about 45 guests.
Their marriage was especially important to both of them as Porter revealed that both their sexualities were not accepted by their families when growing up, which lead them to believe that marriage was not an option.
The couple have been spotted together at several public events, including in 2021 the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards and the Grammy Awards in 2022. Both times they wore stylish outfits and posed together.
