Billy Dee Williams will once again serve as the spokesperson for malt liquor brand Colt 45.
Colt 45 announced Monday that Williams, 79, was back in action as their spokesperson. “Billy Dee Williams has a timeless mystique that is respected by young and old alike,” reads the caption on the new ad, which has been posted to YouTube. “Billy Dee speaks his mind about Colt 45, describing a premium malt liquor that has always stayed true to its essence.”
In the new ad, which features a few clips from Williams’ ads for Colt 45 in the 80s, he is heard in voiceover, saying, “The world moves fast, but change isn’t always a good thing when you got it right the first time around. Because sometimes a true original doesn’t need to change a thing. It works every time.”
Williams previously served as Colt 45’s primary brand ambassador from 1986 to 1991.
When Williams was informed that Colt 45 wanted him back as its spokesperson, he though, “How interesting life is,” he told USA Today. He added, “I suppose that it has always been a part of my life because I put a face on it and a voice to it for so many years.”
Williams also commented on the controversial tagline that’s been resurrected from his previous campaign – “It works every time.”
“You are always going to have people criticizing, in one way or another, for their own personal reason,” Williams said.
