Billy Bush Suspended from ‘Today’ Show After Release Of Trump ‘Access Hollywood’ Video

Billy Bush has been indefinitely suspended from his co-host position on the Today show following the release of an audio recording of Bush and Donald Trump speaking in extremely sexist terms about women.

Following the leak of the tape featuring Trump and Bush speaking candidly and offensively about women, Bush has been taken out of the Today lineup. At first, sources for the network claimed that no disciplinary action would be taken. Then NBC said Bush would be benched for this morning’s show. And finally, the decision has been made to suspend Bush.

The show recently went all in with Bush and relocated him from Los Angeles to New York to co-host. It was thought that he would eventually replace Matt Lauer.

“I know we’ve all been deeply troubled by the revelations of the past 48 hours,” said Noah Oppenheim, the NBC executive in charge of Today. “Let me be clear — there is simply no excuse for Billy’s language and behavior on that tape. NBC has decided to suspend Billy, pending further review of this matter.”

Bush issued a quick apology on Friday after the tapes release, saying he is “embarrassed and ashamed.” “It’s no excuse,” it continued, “but this happened eleven years ago — I was younger, less mature, and acted foolishly in playing along. I’m very sorry.”

This is considerably more than what Trump has said in apology, attributing the discussion to “locker-room talk.”

“He’s suspended or perhaps fired for what he said,” commented CNN’s Bill Carter. “The other guy’s running, still, to be the head of the free world.”
