Bill Pullman Responds To Trump’s ‘Independence Day’ Tweet

Bill Pullman reclaimed his voice from the 1996 film Independence Day after President Donald Trump tweeted a heavily altered video of a scene from the movie. 

In response to the tweet, Pullman said to The Hollywood Reporter, “my voice belongs to no one but me, and I’m not running for president — this year.” 

Trump’s tweet featured his head superimposed over Pullman’s body in the scene from Independence Day. Pullman’s character is the United States president Thomas J. Whitmore. In the scene that Trump tweeted the president gives a speech to the military regarding the battle they are going to endure against the movie’s alien attackers. 

Vivica A. Fox, who plays Jasmine Dubrow and co-starred with Pullman in the movie responded to the tweet as well. She said, “PRETENDING U KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING?? CANT BELIEVE U WOULD INSULT OUR CLASSIC FILM THIS WAY! BUT HEY! TYPICAL POS BEHAVIOR! U NEVER HAD THE LEADERSHIP OR COURAGE TO DO THIS ROLE! NEVER!”

Randy Quaid, who is in Independence Day and in the original scene of the film responded a different way. He took to Twitter and said, “At the premiere of our film ID4 the audience lined around 2 blocks and leapt to their feet, cheering with patriotic enthusiasm throughout the film. I had not seen that kind of intense fervor until the Trump rallies.  🇺🇸 #TrumpPence2020”

Independence Day was released on July 3 1996 and features a science fiction story about aliens that try to destroy the planet Earth on Fourth of July weekend. It was directed by Roland Emmerich and also stars Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Mary McDonnell and Judd Hirsch. 

A sequel was made to the movie in 2016 titled Independence Day: Resurgence. It took place 20 years after the original film’s events. However, but it was not nearly as successful.
