Bill Murray was among the famous faces who participated in the 2016 Ryder Cup Celebrity Matches at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, yesterday.
Murray and Huey Lewis halved with Paul O’Connell and Niall Horan at the celebrity golf tournament. An animated Murray, perhaps upon learning that he and Lewis couldn’t best O’Connell and Horan, made a grimace on the green.
In another match, Kurt Russell and Rob Riggle beat Alessandro Del Piero and Andriy Schevchenko, 4 up. “It was a blast,” Russell told Rydercup.com. “I’ve played in many pro-ams before, including Pebble Beach, but this one felt different the moment I arrived. You could feel it.”
Olympic star Michael Phelps, out of the water for once, was teamed up with Kelly Slater. The two managed to beat John Regis and Martina Navratilova, 6 up. “I haven’t played a lot of golf, but really love the game. This was a great experience,” Phelps said. “Today, it was an amazing atmosphere. People were yelling ‘2020’ around the course. That was pretty funny, because it’s not happening.”
Todd English and Jeremy Roenick beat Jose Andres and Nigel Lythgoe, 4 up.
