Bill Maher, during Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, announced his endorsement of Sen. Ted Cruz for president over Donald Trump in the GOP contest.
Maher ended his “New Rules” segment on Real Time by comparing the Republican presidential race to Sophie’s Choice and joking that Republicans want to know which candidate is less awful: Cruz or Trump.
“Donald Trump like Ebola, he’ll violently kill you right away,” the host said. “Cruz is more like the Zika virus: we won’t see the damage until future generations.”
Maher then went on to explain the biggest difference between the two candidates.
“Trump is the most thin-skinned person in human history, and reacts to the smallest slight with the hair-trigger wounded ego of a male flight attendant, whereas Ted Cruz is immune to insults because he’s learned to live in a world where everyone—everywhere—has always hated him.”
Maher pointed out that while neither is an ideal choice, Republicans must deal with the options they’ve been given.
“We have to accept that being a grown-up means hard choices between disgusting options,” Maher told the audience.
“You have to decide—we all have to decide—so, let me just say, in the choice between Trump and Cruz, I fore squarely choose: Ted Cruz,” he announced.
Maher listed a number of reasons why Trump shouldn’t be president even calling the businessman a “lunatic.”
“Ted Cruz will be our worst president, but Donald Trump might well be our last. Which is why I say: Better Ted Than Dead,” the host remarked.
Maher solidified his position by putting on a red baseball cap with the slogan “Better Ted Than Dead” written on it in the style of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats.
