Disney World removed a statue of Bill Cosby from their Hollywood Studios theme park this week following the release of Cosby’s court deposition.
Disney quietly removed a bronze bust of the comedian from the Hollywood Studios theme park in Orlando on Tuesday night after the park had closed. The decision to remove the statue comes seven months after an online petition was started asking Disney to get rid of it.
Earlier this week, Cosby’s court deposition from the 2005 sexual assault case made against him by Andrea Constand was released. In his deposition, Cosby admitted to buying Quaaludes – heavy sedatives that were outlawed in the ‘80s – for the specific purpose of giving them to young women to have sex. Court documents show he answered “yes” when asked “When you got the Quaaludes, was it in your mind that you were going to use these Quaaludes for young women that you wanted to have sex with?”
Disney is not the only company distancing themselves from Cosby since the release of the court documents. Centric and Bounce TV pulled reruns of The Cosby Show and Cosby, respectively, from their schedules, and BET has announced that they, too, will begin pulling The Cosby Show from their network. Cosby has also lost celebrity supporters, namely Jill Scott, who adamantly defended Cosby last winter, but admitted she was wrong after his 2005 admission went public.
However, one famous figure has remained loyal to Cosby: The View co-host Whoopi Goldberg continued to defend Cosby this week, doubling down on Wednesday after insisting Cosby was “innocent until proven guilty.”
