Bill Cosby Hires Michael Jackson’s Former Lawyer, Tom Mesereau, For Sexual Assault Trial
Bill Cosby hires former Michael Jackson attorney Tom Mesereau to defend him in his sexual assault trial.
BILL COSBY HIRES MICHAEL JACKSON LAWYER TOM MESEREAU
Mesereau won an acquittal for Jackson in his 2004 child molestation trial. He also represented Mike Tyson, Marion “Suge” Knight, Robert Blake, and a Playboy bunny. He will be joined by former federal prosecutor Kathleen Bliss and Sam Silver to defend Cosby.
Mesereau will be Cosby’s third attorney, after his first two quit before his retrial set for early next spring. The first trial for the comedian ended in a hung jury, over charges that he drugged and molested a woman in his home in 2004. Both Angela Agrusa and Brian McMonagle withdrew as Cosby’s counsel this month.
Mesereau’s first court appearance on behalf of Cosby is today, Tuesday, Aug. 22. They succeeded in pushing the retrial back a few month, and it is now loosely scheduled for mid-March/early-April of 2018. After a mistrial the first time around, Mesereau was critical of prosecutors who immediately decided to retry, calling the retrial a “waste of time.”
