Bill Cosby Countersuing Seven Of His Sexual Assault Accusers

Bill Cosby has filed a countersuit against seven women who have accused him of sexual assault, claiming defamation.

Bill Cosby Files Countersuit

Cosby’s lawsuit has been filed against Tamara Green, Therese Serignese, Linda Traitz, Louisa Moritz, Barbara Bowman, Joan Tarshis and Angela Leslie, who joined together in a suit against Cosby that was filed in his home state of Massachusetts. Of the half dozen civil lawsuits filed against the former Cosby Show star, theirs is the largest.

Monique Pressley, Cosby’s attorney, said in a statement that her client maintains that he did not drug or assault the women.

“Mr. Cosby states plainly that he neither drugged nor sexually assaulted the defendants and that each defendant has maliciously and knowingly published multiple false statements and accusations from Fall 2014 through the current day in an effort to cause damage to Mr. Cosby’s reputation and to extract financial gains,” Pressley told USA Today.

Cosby is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.

Attorney Joseph Cammarata, who represents the seven women, asserted that he had seen Cosby’s countersuit coming. Cammarata cast doubt on the legitimacy of Cosby’s claims of innocence in light of the fact that dozens more have accused him of such heinous acts.

“This was expected,” Cammarata said. “It’s a page out of a defense lawyer’s playbook. It’s curious to me how there can be scores of other ladies who have come out, and yet Mr. Cosby has singled out seven of them to bring a claim against. It’s seems a bit retaliatory to me.”

On the same day that Cosby filed his countersuit, his honorary degree from Boston University was revoked. Boston University, which had conferred the degree in 2014, has joined a number of other institutions of higher learning in revoking degrees following the troubling allegations against the comedian.

“The Board’s decision was based on a determination, supported by Mr. Cosby’s sworn deposition testimony, that his treatment of women has brought significant and lasting discredit upon himself and is inconsistent with the University’s mission and values,” said Boston University president Robert A. Brown in a statement.

Cosby was deposed in October in the civil case brought by Judy Huth. Huth claims that Cosby sexually abused her at the Playboy Mansion in 1974 when she was just 15. Cosby’s deposition in regard to the lawsuit has not been made public. It is expected to be made public by the end of December.
