Former President Bill Clinton thinks Americans should be worried about President Donald Trump’s actions.

The 42nd U.S. President and best-selling author James Patterson appeared on the talk show The View to promote their new novel, The First Gentleman. The book is a political thriller that follows the president of the United States and her husband, who is being investigated for murder while she’s running for reelection.

Clinton discussed the current administration and how Trump is slowly implementing the White House 2025 report.

When asked about his stance on the Biden Administration and whether he stands by his support of the former president, Clinton made it clear he could only speak on his personal experiences with Joe Biden, but that “his mind was clear. His judgment was good, and he was on top of his brief.”

Clinton also noted that ten days before the infamous debate with Trump, “he went to Europe and back twice, and then he went to California once. He’s 80 years old. What the heck is he doing that for? All I know is, we need to think less about that and more about the future.”

“Mr. President, I agree with you. We need to talk about the future,” co-host Sunny Hostin said to Clinton. “And beyond Trump’s big, beautiful bill, he is working to dismantle, in my view, our foundational institutions.”

“He’s intimidating law firms and universities. He’s stifling media. He’s illegally disappearing people and deporting people, and he’s now threatening to impeach judges,” she continued. “Are you confident that the courts will hold, and what concerns you most about what he’s doing now?”

“That the courts won’t hold until we have our midterm elections,” Clinton agreed.

He went on to mention the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an El Salvadoran man whose deportation violated a U.S. immigration judge’s order in 2019.

“The guy is still there in jail, so I’m worried about that, and you should be worried about that. Whatever your politics [are],” Clinton said. “Because, although I have a sneaking suspicion, if our party wins the White House in the next election, there will be a hallelujah moment and the Supreme Court will rediscover the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and limits.”

“I’ll be happy if that happens because all of us should operate under guardrails,” he continued. “The whole purpose of the Constitution was to repeal royal government, unaccountable government, that no Democrat or Republican can be without accountability. So we’ll see what happens. But I’m pretty upbeat about it.”

Later in the show, Joy Behar asked Patterson if the pair wrote The First Gentleman, hoping that “life would imitate art,” referencing the 2016 election, where if Hillary Clinton had won, Bill would’ve been in that position.

“I wanted the job,” he said. “It’s the only political job I ever wanted that I didn’t get.”
Whoopi Goldberg piped in, reminding them all that “there’s still time, nothing is off the table, that’s what I say.”
