Bill Clinton, 78, Hospitalized For The Flu

On Monday afternoon, December 23, former President Bill Clinton, 78, was hospitalized in Washington due to a high fever.

According to Clinton’s deputy chief of staff, Angel Ureña, Clinton “has been admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital for testing and observation after developing a fever.”

She assured the public, “He is in good spirits and grateful for the care he is receiving.”

Another source close to Clinton asserted the situation was “not urgent,” and said, “The former president will be fine… he developed a fever and wanted to be checked out. He is awake and alert.”

As predicted by his team, Clinton was dismissed from the hospital on Tuesday. Ureña wrote on X, “President Clinton was discharged earlier today after being treated for the flu. He and his family are deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by the team at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and are touched by the kind messages and well wishes he received.”

She added, “He sends his warmest wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season to all.”

This August, Clinton, a speaker at every Democratic National Convention since 1976, said in his address, “Two days ago, I turned 78. The oldest man in my family who is still living. And the only personal vanity I want to assert is that I’m still younger than Donald Trump.”

President-elect Donald Trump is 78. He was born on June 14, 1946, while Clinton was born on August 19, 1946.

Acknowledging his advanced age, Clinton said, “I want to say from the bottom of my heart…I have no idea how many more of these I’ll be able to come to.”

The U.S.’s 42nd president, Clinton, has battled a variety of health struggles since he left office in 2001; he underwent a quadruple bypass operation in 2004 and had another potentially life-saving heart surgery in 2010. He was also hospitalized in 2021 for a urological infection when it spread to his bloodstream.

Clinton, who served two terms from January 1993 to January 2001, spent the last year an ardent supporter of Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.
