Big Brother’s last nomination ceremony revealed that Aaryn Gries put Howard Overby and Spencer Clawson on the block. Helen Kim, who masterminded Aaryn’s selection, tries to throw the rest of the housemates off the scent of their alliance by wrapping Aaryn in a big hug and thanking her for not trying to kick her out of the house. Elissa Slater, not play-acting, is truly surprised. Amanda Zuckerman also seems genuinely relieved to be safe – so far.

Less happy with the results, of course, was Howard, who fancies himself a truly smart and agile game player. Nervous that this week could be his last, he decides the best way to save himself is to essentially lecture the rest of the house. The point of his speech was hard to determine, as his content was all over the place. Despite a lackluster reception, Howard seems pleased with how it went. Spencer thinks Howard just freaked everyone out.

America, meanwhile, has added Amanda to the block, which she’s completely livid about. McCrae Olson, who has been trying unsuccessfully to turn Spencer and Howard against one another, takes to defending his woman. Still unaware that the MVP isn’t anyone in the house, the contestants assume it’s most likely Howard, which he refuses to confirm or deny. No one knows who put Amanda up for elimination – except for America.

Competing in the Helen-hosted veto competition are Aaryn, Howard, Amanda, Spencer, Candice Stewart and Jessie Kowalski. The task they’re given is rebuilding the very first veto, which has since been demolished. It gives most of the players some difficulty, and while the rest are still trying to puzzle it out, a focused Spencer wins the veto. Since Spencer is going to use the power to remove himself from the block, Aaryn needs to put someone else up.

Candice rightly fears that Aaryn is going to nominate her and appeals to Helen. She let’s Helen know that she’s wise to her alliance with Elissa, Amanda and McCrae and that she has been puppeteering much of the action. Instead of bending to Candice, Helen seems resolved to bring her down a peg. Ultimately, Candice joins Howard and Amanda on the block.

Big Brother returns to CBS Thursday at 9/8c.
