Beyonce, Taylor Swift Clean Up At Grammys
Beyonce won six Grammys Sunday night, including for best song of the year for "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)," but Taylor Swift, 20, walked away with the top prize at the end of the evening for album of the year for her CD Fearless. "Oh wow – thank you so much!" Swift enthused to the audience. "I just hope that you know how much this means to me – that we get to take this back to Nashville. This is for my Dad, thank you for all those times that you said I could do whatever I wanted in life, and my Mom, you’re my best friend. This is the story we’re going to be telling our grandkids over and over again and they are going to get so annoyed at us. That in 2010 we got to win Album of the Year at the Grammys.”
Record of the year went to the Kings of Leon for "Use Somebody." "I’m not going to lie, we’re all a little drunk," lead singer Caleb Followill admitted. "But we’re happy drunks." Beyonce, who in 2004 won five Grammys for her debut album Dangerously in Love, also won for best lyrics for "Single Ladies" and best R&B contemporary album for I Am … Sasha Fierce. Meanwhile, the country band Zac Brown Band won best new artist.
In one of the memorable mash-ups of the night, Beyonce mixed her vocal powerhouse performance of “If I Were A Boy” with Alanis Morissette’s “You Oughta Know.” The Black Eyed Peas sang “Imma Be” and “I Gotta Feeling.” Dave Matthews Band gave a soulful performance of “You and Me” complete with full string quartet. Finally, Eminem, Drake and Lil Wayne rocked “Forever” with Travis Barker on the drums and closed out the show with the intensity that’s now expected from the rap performance.
Most awkward moment of the night went to Justin Bieber who messed up his lines saying that fans should vote for their favorite Beyonce hit rather than Bon Jovi. He proceeded to explain the slip-up to the audience by saying that Beyonce is always on his mind. Watch out Jay-Z! –JOE GALBO
