Beyoncé will headline Coachella 2017, a decade after the festival last had a female headliner.
Beyoncé will headline alongside Kendrick Lamar. “For her to be playing one of the biggest festivals in North America is a testament to both Goldenvoice and their ability to book people and just the Coachella brand,” said Dave Brooks, editor of Amplify magazine. Queen Bey is unquestionably the biggest headliner the festival has ever gotten.
It is also a testament to the show’s diversity, as Beyoncé’s stuff is more pop than the usual Coachella electronic vibe. And after a year of no hip-hop headliners, Coachella 2017 will feature a lot more hip-hop artists, including Travis Scott, Mac Miller, Future, and DJ Khaled.
Thom Yorke and Radiohead will also be returning after headlining in 2004 and 2012. Brooks describes Radiohead as an “excellent festival band,” thanks to their deep song catalog. The band is also touring a new album but have yet to make a festival appearance.
One surprising festival performer will be film score composer Hans Zimmer, who will be doing a US tour. “I think they’ve got a good mix of contemporary acts, a lot of emerging artists, and more hip-hop than I’ve ever seen at the festival and a pretty good amount of EDM,” said Brooks.
Coachella will take place April 14-16 and April 21-23. The full lineup was posted by Coachella on Instagram, and can be seen below.
