A Beyoncé fan was able to see the singer live after the airline couldn’t fly him.
Jon Hetherington, a 34-year-old Oregon resident with cerebral palsy, had a scheduled flight to Seattle last week to see Beyonce but claims that his wheelchair was too tall to fit on the plane. The airline couldn’t find any other flight.
“So after 25 years of waiting, I’m not seeing Beyonce tonight, so ableism strikes again,” Hetherington said in a Tiktok video.
The video was then noticed by the BeyHive, the nickname for Beyoncé fandom. They shared it over and over and tagged Beyonce and her company, Parkwood Entertainment, in hopes they would see. A representative from Parkwood Entertainment offered to fly Hetherington out to a Houston show, arranging both transportation and flight for him.
Hetherington posted updates about his concert experience on his Instagram and posted photos with him and Beyoncé and Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother.
“There is much that I will say in the coming days about what tonight means to me. There are some things I’ll keep for myself. Truly an honor to meet [Tina] Thank you for all that you’ve done and given the world. We’re so grateful,” he captioned the photo with Beyoncé’s mother. “To the Queen herself, I will treasure those words you said and the hugs you gave. I meant every word I said. No, for anyone and everyone reading this, I will not ever share with you what was said to me, don’t even try it. That moment is between the two of us.”

The show Hetherington attended in Houston, which is Beyoncé’s hometown, featured a guest appearance from fellow Houstonian Megan Thee Stallion, which featured a debut performance of the 2020 hit “Savage Remix.” Five members of Destiny’s Child also showed up to support.
