Beyoncé, Eminem and Iggy Azalea lead the way with the most nominations for the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.
MTV announced the nominees on Thursday with Beyoncé earning eight nominations – the most of any artist this year. Beyoncé’s sexy video “Partition” is nominated for Best Female Video and Best Choreography, while “Pretty Hurts” is nominated for Best Video with a Social Message, Best Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Direction. Finally, she and her husband and collaborator Jay Z are nominated for Best Collaboration with their hit “Drunk In Love,” which is also nominated for Video of the Year.
Eminem and Rihanna are also up for Best Collaboration for their song “The Monster.” Eminem is also up for six other awards, tying for second most nominations with fellow rap artist Iggy Azalea. However, Eminem is not nominated for the coveted Video Of The Year award. In fact the only male artist, other than a featured Jay Z, up for the award is Pharrell, nominated for his massive hit “Happy.” Sia’s “Chandelier” and Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” are also nominated for Video of the Year.
Azalea earned the bulk of her nominees with her smash hit “Fancy,” but is also on the list as a featured artist on Ariana Grande’s “Problem,” which received three nominations – Best Pop Video, Best Female Video and Best Collaboration.
Other multiple nominees include DJ Snake & Lil Jon for “Turn Down For What” and Lorde’s “Royals.” Usher, Ariana Grande and 5 Seconds of Summer are set to perform at the Video Music Awards, airing live Aug. 24 at 9 p.m. on MTV.
