Beyonce Drops ‘Lemonade’ Album, Hints At Jay Z Infidelity

Beyonce dropped her surprise visual album Lemonade on Saturday night on HBO. Many of the tracks contain lyrics that suggest that Jay Z has been unfaithful in their marriage.

All of the music videos for Lemonade debuted together on HBO over the weekend in the form of an hourlong visual album. In addition to tracks like “Formation,” which Beyonce released earlier this year that touches on race and gender, there are tracks that pointedly refer to being cheated on.

“You know I give you life / If you try this s–t again you’re gonna lose your wife,” Beyonce sings on “Don’t Hurt Yourself.” In “Daddy Lessons,” Beyonce sings, “My daddy warned me about men like you / He said, ‘Baby girl, he’s playing you.'”

“Hold Up” includes the lyric, “What’s worse, looking jealous or crazy? Jealous or crazy? / More like being walked all over lately, walked all over lately, I’d rather be crazy.” And on “Sorry,” in a possible reference to “Single Ladies,” Beyonce sings, “Looking at my watch, he shoulda been home / Today I regret the night I put that ring on / He always got them f–king excuses.”

While it’s possible that Beyonce’s lyrics aren’t autobiographical, one line in particular on “Sorry” has inspired the most interest: “He only want me when I’m not on there / He better call Becky with the good hair.”

It could have remained more or less a mystery as to whom – if anyone – Beyonce was referring. But, Rachel Roy, the ex-wife of Jay Z’s former business partner Damon Dash, seemed to make it clear on her Instagram account – before making it private – that she’s “Becky.” “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths always,” she captioned a picture of herself.

Beyonce and Jay Z have yet to comment about the allusions to cheating on her new album.
