It started with Mila Kunis. Then it spread to her Friends With Benefits co-star Justin Timberlake. Now, the latest celebrity to receive a special invitation to the Marine Corps Ball is none other than comedic sensation and former Golden Girl Betty White. White, 89, whose career went from typical to robust with the aid of a successful 2010 Facebook campaign called "Betty White to Host SNL (Please)", finds herself in the spotlight yet again thanks to technology that did not exist for about 90% of her life.
Sergeant Ray Lewis ("like the football player," he says in the video) invited White to the Marine Corps Ball, but forgot to specify which, exactly. Kunis and Timberlake have agreed to attend separate balls — one in North Carolina on November 18 and the other in Washington, D.C., on November 12.
As the trend grows, so does the quality and duration of the video invitation. Sergeant Scott Moore's plea for Kunis' attendance was a straightforward — if conspicuously debonair — invitation clocking in at 19 seconds. When Corporal Kelsey De Santis asked Timberlake to accompany her to Washington, D.C., she stood in front of six fellow marines and rushed out the invite in 15 seconds. Lewis' video takes a full 2:04 and features him transform instantly from sweaty camouflage to his formal dress uniform.
White, who recently received news of her 17th Emmy nomination for her work in TV Land's Hot in Cleveland, has not yet responded to Lewis' invitation. Both Kunis and Timberlake said they have busy schedules but will do what they can to accommodate the Marines' requests.

Oh wow. Another marine inviting a celebrity to the Marine Corps Ball? This one is more interesting than the others, but this trend is getting old really fast (and even a little annoying).
I agree, this trend is starting to get annoying. Especially the fact that he invited Betty White, whose 15 minutes of fame just needs to be over already.
