Bernie Sanders and Larry David share a distant relative, PBS’ Finding Your Roots confirmed.
Yes, the man who hilariously portrayed the presidential candidate on Saturday Night Live is actually related to him. The connection was revealed on Tuesday night during the fourth season premiere of the show. In the episode, host Louis Gates Jr. gave each man a book with photos of distant cousins.
“I hope it’s a good athlete,” David said before opening it. “What the hell!” he shouted when it was revealed.
The Vermont Senator was floored. “You’re kidding!” he laughed. “Oh my God! That is unbelievable. It’s true?”
Sanders has always had a good laugh about David’s impression of him, but this connection adds so much more. “People say to me, you know they talk about Larry David, and I say he does a better Bernie Sanders than I do,” the real Sanders joked on the show.
“Cousin Bernie,” David laughed after the reveal.
