Bernie Sanders was brought to tears as his older brother, Larry Sanders, cast a floor vote for him at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday.

Bernie Sanders’ Brother Larry Sanders

Larry Sanders, a Democrats Abroad delegate from the United Kingdom, had the chance to cast his vote for his brother Bernie Sanders during Day 2 of the DNC. His voice shaking, Larry Sanders invoked the memory of their parents, Eli and Dorothy Sanders.

“They did not have easy lives and they died young. They would be immensely proud of their son and his accomplishments. They loved him,” Larry Sanders, who is the Health Spokesperson for the Green Party of England and Wales, said. “They loved the New Deal of Franklin Roosevelt and would be especially proud that Bernard is renewing that vision. It is with enormous pride that I cast my vote for Bernie Sanders.”

Bernie Sanders, in the VIP box with his wife Jane Sanders, teared up hearing his brother’s remarks. Jane Sanders, too, became emotional in the touching moment at the DNC.

At the conclusion of the roll call, which saw Hillary Clinton ahead by hundreds of delegates, Sanders opted to move to give Clinton the Democratic Party’s nomination by acclamation.
