Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Turner tied the knot on the British Isle of Wight on Valentine’s Day.
Cumberbatch’s spokesperson Karon Maskill confirmed the nuptial news Sunday. “Benedict and Sophie were married yesterday surrounded by their close friends and family,” Maskill told CNN. “It was a magical day.”
Cumberbatch, 38, and Turner, 36, were wed at the 12th-century St. Peter and St. Paul Church, reported the Telegraph. Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty in Sherlock, was among the guests. Fellow Sherlock star Martin Freeman reportedly served as Cumberbatch’s best man. After the couple exchanged vows, a reception was held nearby at Mottistone Manor.
It was revealed in November that Cumberbatch and Turner were engaged to be married after a notice was published in the Times of London. “Mr B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter: The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London,” the traditional announcement read.
In January, Cumberbatch and Turner shared that they were expecting their first child together. “I am delighted to confirm that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are expecting their first child,” their rep told the Daily Mail. “They are both over the moon.”
Cumberbatch and Turner, who is an actress, met in 2009 on the set of Burlesque Fairytales. They only went public with their romantic relationship last summer.
