As they say, not all heroes wear capes. The food delivery company Deliveroo has thanked Benedict Cumberbatch for his “heroic actions” on Saturday. According to Cumberbatch’s Uber driver, he jumped out of the vehicle to tackle muggers who struck the delivery cyclist with a bottle.
The Uber driver, Manuel Dias, was driving Cumberbatch and his wife Sophie Hunter along Marylebone High Street in London when they spotted the attackers.
Cumberbatch, the Sherlock Holmes star, got out of the car and grabbed one of the attackers, with the help of Dias.
“I had hold of one lad and Benedict another,” Dias said. “He seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was very brave.”

Dias also said the film star continually shouted, “Leave him alone.”
Cumberbatch was just around the corner from where the attack occurred.
“Here was ‘Sherlock Holmes’ fighting off four attackers just round the corner from Baker Street,” Dias said. “If he hadn’t stepped in, the cyclist could have been seriously injured.”
Deliveroo expressed their gratefulness for Cumberbatch’s quick-thinking and helpful actions.
“On behalf of everyone at Deliveroo: Thank you so much,” the food delivery company said.
Cumberbatch said, “I did it out of, well, I had to, you know.”
