Benedict Cumberbatch and his longtime girlfriend Sophie Hunter announced their engagement in a London newspaper on Tuesday.

Benedict Cumberbatch Engaged

Cumberbatch and Hunter announced their intention to marry in The Times of London among others underneath the "Forthcoming Marriages" headline. "The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katherine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London," read the short announcement.

The old-fashioned announcement did not reveal the date of the couple's engagement, nor when they plan on tying the knot. However, Cumberbatch's rep did confirm the engagement news, saying in a statement, "I am delighted to confirm this morning’s announcement that Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter are engaged."

It was only months ago that Cumberbatch, 38, was first linked to Hunter, 36, with whom he co-starred in Susan Luciani's 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales. In June, the couple went public with their relationship at the French Open.

Cumberbatch was previously in a 12-year relationship with his college sweetheart Olivia Poulet. After that relationship ended on amicable terms, he went on to date artist Anna James and model Katia Elizarova.
