Ben Cohen And Jerry Greenfield, Ben And Jerry’s Founders, Arrested At Democracy Spring Protest

Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, the cofounders of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, were arrested earlier this week, taking part in the Democracy Springs protests in Washington D.C.

The explanation on Ben and Jerry’s website left it unclear as to why they were detained, but they were proud to put their founders on the poster for social justice. The company also used it as a chance to plug ice cream flavors that were related to other social issues, such as “Save Our Swirl,” which was about climate change, and “I Dough, I Dough,” supporting same-sex marriage.

The Democracy Spring protests are fighting against massive amounts of cash being poured into campaigns and elections as the Supreme Court’s Citizen’s United decision.

The ice cream moguls were not the only high-profiled people to be cuffed. Rosario Dawson was also arrested, along with roughly 300 other people, including Miss New Jersey U.S. Sameera Khan. U.S. Capitol Police have charged those arrested with crowding, obstructing or incommoding, which are against the law. They were, however, processed on the spot and promptly released.
