Ben Carson Declares ‘Fruit Salad’ Criteria For Supreme Court Nominees, Internet Explodes

Ben Carson is one of the last Republican presidential candidates standing, using the term “standing” loosely. Carson’s numbers are dropping and his soft-spoken debate performances have been underwhelming. He did change it up a bit in last night’s heated Republican debate, in the sense that he’s finally sparked some real attention from the internet.

When asked how he would evaluate potential Supreme Court justices Carson said, “I will go through and I will look at what a person’s life has been. What have they done in the past, what kind of judgments have they made? What kind of associations do they have? That will tell you a lot more than an interview will tell you. The fruit salad of their life is what I will look at.”

These comments were said to the delight of the internet, which of course, does not mean good things for Carson.

Carson clarified after the debate that the “fruit salad” comment was an allusion to the bible.

“There’s a verse in the Bible that says, ‘By their fruit, you will know them. So, obviously, you know, how they live their lives, what it produces, that’s the fruit salad of their lives,” said Carson to ABC News.

Carson definitely was trying to garner attention last night. He called out Hugh Hewitt, the moderator, for not giving him enough speaking time last night.

“First of all,” said Carson, “people say I whine a lot because I don’t get time. I’m going to whine. I didn’t get asked about taxes. I didn’t get asked about Israel. Hugh, you said you were ging to be fair to everybody.”

And as the debate grew increasingly hostile, with Donald Trump attacking Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, and the two fighting back, Carson said, “Can somebody attack me please?” (Since the rules only allow candidates to respond when their name is mentioned.)

During his closing statement he called voters to think about what kind of leader they wanted and continued, “Secondly, several years ago, a movie was made about these hands. These hands by the grace of God have saved many lives and healed many families. I’m asking you tonight, America, to join hands with me to heal, inspire, and revive America. If not us, who? And if not now, when?”

It seems that the internet is ready to join hands with Carson.
