On Saturday’s presidential debate, things got confusing before the debate even kicked off. As ABC News moderators introduced Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson, he did not walk onto the stage, but instead waited just offstage while other candidates walked past him.
Donald Trump also did not walk onto stage when his name was called. In the clip, an ABC producer pops his head out and ushers Carson onto stage, but he refuses until he hears his name called.
ABC moderators commented that the audiences’ applause and cheering was so loud that the presidential candidates couldn’t hear their names called.
“Well, you know, when I wasn’t introduced No. 2, as was the plan, I thought maybe he thought I already had dropped out,” Carson joked at the beginning of his debate about the mix up.
Moderators David Muir and Martha Raddatz nearly missed announcing Ohio Governor John Kasich until New Jersey Governor Chris Chirstie asked where Kasich was.
