Ben Affleck was spotted smoking on the set of his new movie Live by Night in Pasadena, Calif., earlier this week.

Affleck was in period costume for the day of shooting in California, wearing wide-legged tan pants with a matching belt and suspenders. The Batman actor’s outfit was completed with a stripped shirt and short tie, while his hair was slicked back and parted to the side. Affleck was also spotted with a cigarette in hand.

Affleck had returned to the Live By Night set after making a memorable appearance on Bill Simmons new show. When asked about Deflategate, the Boston-born diehard New England Patriots fan went on an expletive-filled rant that some thought indicated he may have gotten liquored up ahead of the interview.

“Deflategate is the ultimate bulls–t f–king outrage of sports ever. It’s so f–king stupid that I can’t believe [it],” Affleck shouted, adding. “They gave him a suspension for a quarter of the season, which would be equivalent of suspending a baseball player for 40 f–king days—40 quarter days, to be exact. Which is what they do when you get busted taking steroids. And by the way, if the NFL really knew how to test for steroids and HGH, there’d be no f–king NFL. So instead, what they did was suspend Tom Brady for four days for not giving them his f–king cell phone and for having a friend who called himself the deflator.”

In good humor, Affleck took to Twitter to address the interview and its subsequent media coverage, writing, “For those of you keeping score at home, I gave exactly 18 f*cks about my Pats. Upon reflection, 12 probably would have been sufficient. We Boston fans have always been known for our subtlety.”

Live By Night – which also stars Elle Fanning, Scott Eastwood, Zoe Saldana and Sienna Miller – is slated to hit theaters January 13, 2017.
