Company XIV’s provocative rendition of the ballet Nutcracker Rouge is making a highly anticipated return for its 13th anniversary limited engagement.
This unique production seamlessly blends the talents of circus performers, singers, seductive burlesque dancers and extravagant baroque fashion.
Nutcracker Rouge is an artistic creation helmed by Austin McCormick, who serves as the creator, director, and choreographer. The talented cast features notable performers such as Storm Marrero and Brandon Looney who portray Dosselmeyer, Megumi “Meg” Iwama, Ellen Akashi as Marie-Claire, and Marcos Antonio and Jack Blackmon as the Nutcracker Prince.
Other memorable performers include Robyn Adele Anderson and Melike Konur as Sugar Queens, Lola Carter as Cherries, Alisa Mae and Kylie Rose as Champagne, Uys du Buisson as Absinthe, Daniel Darling as Cotton Candy, and Duane Gosa as Mother Ginger. The ensemble cast includes Erin Dillon, Nicholas Katen, Clarisa Patton and Morgan Lee Wade.
The creative team behind Nutcracker Rouge includes talented costume and scenic designer Zane Pihlström, skilled makeup designer, Sarah Cimino, expert lighting designer Brian Tovar, accomplished sound designer Julian Evans, and the talented wig designers Bryan Gonzale and Charlie August Kellogg. Nicolas Katen serves as the rehearsal director and Jana Violante manages the costume shop.
The performance shows an adult protagonist Marie Claire, once innocent, who now navigates a wintry realm filled with partially clad dancers and acrobats. Their gyrations and physical feats evoke a sense of ecstasy within her.
Audiences can experience the spectacle until January 27 at Théâtre XIV, located in Brooklyn, New York. Nutcracker Rouge is strictly for audiences aged 21 and above, and a valid ID is required for entry, ensuring an immersive and adult-oriented experience.
